A man accused of burgling two shops while drunk was detained for 10 days, police said on Wednesday.

Law enforcement in Jinshan District started their investigation on October 9 when a clothing store reported that a few women's garments worth about 400 yuan (US$56) were stolen.

From surveillance cameras inside the shop, police found that a man broke into the shop at 3:47am that day, took off his trousers, donned women's clothes and left.

The man allegedly broke the lock of the shop to gain access.

He also left his mobile phone at the scene, police said.

The man then walked to another shop, where he broke in, took off the women's clothing and then departed, according to police.

Just as police were investigating the burglary and theft at the first shop, a man appeared and claimed that the left-behind mobile phone belongs to him, but he couldn't remember what happened earlier that day.

Police said the man was the one caught on surveillance cameras entering the two shops.
