A Poland-China Culture Season started in Yangpu District with a piano concert and an art exhibition over the weekend.

Organized by Yangpu culture and tourism bureau and the district federation of literature and art circles, the season will present polish music, painting and food to local citizens.

An art exhibition featuring 30 paintings from Chinese and Polish artists at the Yangpu District Library has several of Chinese opera paintings by Zhu Gang, director of Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts college of fine arts.

The paintings are displayed at the along with work by Wieslaw Borkowski Jr and Agata Jóźwiak and is open to public for free through October 29.

Pianists Katarzyna Borek and Xie Jingxian played works by Frederic Chopin, the famous Polish pianist.

Cultural exchanges between China and Poland can date back to 17th century when Michael Boym, a missionary from Poland, brought Chinese culture to the West, said Yang Yingyu, director of Yangpu culture and tourism bureau.

The 80-year-old Yangpu library at 128 Hengren Rd was originally part of the Kuomintang government’s plans to bring the city government and major facilities into the area. In the early 1930s, Yangpu was envisioned as a new city center, complete with government buildings, a museum, a stadium,  hospital and TV and radio stations.
