Precious CIIE cargo arrives safely at Yangshan port
The last batch of goods for the second China International Import Expo has arrived at Yangshan port and been transported away without incident, police told Shanghai Daily on Tuesday.
Harbor and waterway police said they took special measures this year to ensure the safety of all expo goods.
Frozen food, wine, textiles, machines, automobile parts and publications, among other goods, started to arrive in Shanghai for the expo starting in September. Yangshan Deep-Water Port, the largest automated port terminal in the world, was their most frequent destination.
At the port, a special unloading area was allocated for containers for the expo, and unlike most other freight there, the expo containers were not staked on top of each other so as to ensure their “absolute safety,” according to the police.
The area held up to 650 20GP containers at the same time, and all containers were transported there with police cars leading the way.
The expo containers were under continuous surveillance and regularly patrolled by police officers. Transportation of the goods away from the port was also tightly managed.
Police said they saw to it that the goods were safely transported through the 32-kilometer Donghai Bridge before heading for their destination.
