International artwork trading center opens at West Bund
The Shanghai International Artwork Trade Center was inaugurated at West Bund in Xuhui District on Tuesday.
The center intends to foster and regulate the art market while facilitating the city’s transformation into a major center for global art trading.
The center functions as an industry platform, through which domestic and foreign art dealers can gain comprehensive information or submit documents at a single location.
“The center serves not only art institutions and auction houses but also collectors and artists,” said Chen Anda, director of the center and assistant to the general manager at Shanghai West Bund Development Group.
Located on Longteng Avenue along the Huangpu River, the newly opened center offers one-stop services such as market regulation guidance, exhibition and auction pre-approval, customs guidance, foreign exchange consulting, taxation consulting, policy consulting and other supportive services.
To provide professional and quality services, a select group of institutions specializing in law, taxation, insurance, transportation and intellectual property rights are introduced at the center.
With its 11.4-kilometer waterfront, the West Bund houses an array of popular art spaces. In November, the first Shanghai International Artwork Trade Month will mainly take place along the area.
A total of 112 activities including three art fairs, 14 auctions, 35 exhibitions, 52 sales exhibitions and eight extensive activities will be held across the city.
On November 8, the high-profile West Bund Museum will be open to the public. Over the following five years, the museum will show a number of exhibitions collected by the Centre Pompidou, enriching the cultural exchange between China and France.
