Party secretary, mayor meet HK delegation
Shanghai Party Secretary Li Qiang and Mayor Ying Yong met a delegation from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, headed by Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, its chief executive, in Shanghai yesterday.
Li welcomed Lam to attend the upcoming 2nd China International Import Expo in order to deepen exchanges and cooperation between Shanghai and Hong Kong.
Lam is visiting Shanghai to attend the CIIE to be held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center from November 5 to 10.
Shanghai and Hong Kong have maintained close cooperation and exchanges. Since the establishment of the Shanghai-Hong Kong Economic and Trade Cooperation Conference, the two sides have achieved fruitful results in various fields, Li said, adding that Shanghai is willing to work with Hong Kong to give full play to their respective advantages and functions.
“It is necessary to continue to deepen cooperation in the fields of finance, economy and trade, and, to continuously promote cultural exchanges such as cultural education and youth exchanges,” Li insisted. “The second China International Import Expo is about to open and Hong Kong companies are welcome to actively participate and share opportunities. As Hong Kong is backed by the motherland and facing the world, we believe that the support of the central government and the concerted efforts of people from all walks of life will surely usher in a brighter future”.
Lam, on her part, said that Shanghai and Hong Kong have a good foundation for cooperation and hope to continue to promote cooperation and exchanges in the fields of economy, trade, finance, culture and art. The two sides will work together to take creative industries to a higher level, and promote friendly exchanges.
“We firmly believe that Hong Kong will be able to overcome all difficulties and re-start with Hong Kong’s deep roots, institutional advantages and opportunities to rely on the motherland, as well as the spirit of Hong Kong people’s perseverance and determination,” she added.
Shanghai leaders Zhuge Yujie and Xu Kunlin also attended the meeting.
