Hospitals sign group procurement deal for large medical equipment

The order includes 35 items valued at 480 million yuan. It was inked by local hospitals, the Shanghai Hospital Development Center, equipment makers and foreign trade agencies.

A group procurement deal of large medical equipment was signed between 18 municipal hospitals in Shanghai and five multinational producers on Friday during the second China International Import Expo.

The procurement involves 35 items valued at 480 million yuan (US$68.8 million). The order includes equipment for advanced CT (computed tomography), magnetic resonance, digital subtraction angiography, SPECT (single-photon emission computed tomography), PET (positron emission tomography)/CT, linear accelerator and surgical robots. Bidding for the order was completed in October.

The procurement was signed by representatives from the Shanghai Hospital Development Center, the hospitals, multinationals such as General Electric and Siemens and foreign trade agencies.

"The procurement provides support for the development of Shanghai's health industries and satisfies the expanding health needs of Shanghai residents," said Kong Fu'an, deputy director of the China International Import Expo Bureau and Shanghai Commission of Commerce.

During the first expo, 33 large medical equipment items were procured for a total amount of 430 million yuan.
