Tourism authorities from the Tibet Autonomous Region promoted its winter tourist attractions in Shanghai on Wednesday.

The region's winter offerings include snowy landscapes, Lhasa sunshine, the Himalayas and traditional Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations, the Tibet Autonomous Region Administration of Tourism Development said.

Tibet's tourism industry is developing quickly because of a number of preferential policies and other developments, said Wang Songping, director of the administration.

The tourist resources of Sagya in Xigaze Prefecture were also promoted during the event held in Xuhui District.

The Sagya Monastery, which enjoys nearly the same fame as the Dunhuang Grottoes for its large collections of Buddhist scriptures, valuable porcelain and vivid murals, has a history of over 900 years. It was listed as a heritage protection site by the State Council in 1961.

In recent years, Xuhui District has been paired with Sagya in a national program to share expertise and build a sustainable development model for some of the county’s poverty-stricken regions.

Tourism authorities in Tibet and Shanghai said they would step up exchange and cooperation to jointly promote the prosperous development of tourism industries of the two places.
