A warm and cloudy weekend is on the cards with the maximum temperature rising to 24 degrees Celsius on Sunday, the day of the Shanghai International Marathon.

From noon on Wednesday, the city was affected by a dry cold air mass. Temperatures on Thursday morning dropped to 12 degrees in downtown areas while most of the outskirts saw them below 10 degrees.

Friday will be even colder and it is likely to be the coldest day since autumn began. Temperatures in suburban areas will range between 5 and 7 degrees.

Saturday, however, will see them rise to 22 degrees and 24 degrees on Sunday as warm air replaces cold.

After the weekend, another series of cold air will roll in with strong winds and rainfall on Monday and temperatures dropping by 10 degrees.

On Monday, the maximum will fall from 24 to 14 degrees with the lowest dropping from 17 to 10.

Skies will clear from Tuesday and highs are expected to return to 20 degrees at the weekend.
