Officials from the city of Karamay, in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, staged traditional dances and displayed local specialties in Shanghai on Thursday to promote its culture and tourism gems.

Tourist attractions such as the Black Oil Mountain Park, a theme park based on the petroleum industry; the Urho Ghost Town, famous for its eerie landscapes; and Dushanzi Grand Canyon in Karamay were promoted in Shanghai.

Gobi jade, clay and iron teapots, and other specialty products of Karamay were on display. Visitors were invited to taste jujubes, raisins, yoghurt and agricultural products of the city. A tea ceremony was also performed.

The event hosted by the Karamay City government and Karamay City Administration of Culture, Sports and Tourism aims to deepen the tourism exchange between Shangahi and Karamay, officials said.

Shanghai has been paired with Karamay in a national program to share expertise and build a sustainable development model for China's western region.
