Shanghai Party Secretary Li Qiang met representatives of overseas media organizations participating in the Fourth World Media Summit Presidium Meeting in Shanghai yesterday.

Cai Mingzhao, executive president of the World Media Summit (WMS) and president of Xinhua News Agency, joined the meeting. Cai also delivered a speech at the banquet attended by Shanghai Mayor Ying Yong.

Senior executives of 13 media organizations from 11 countries, namely, Agence France-Presse (AFP), al-Jazeera Media Network, The Associated Press, BBC, Kyodo News, Naspers South Africa, Reuters, Folha de S. Paulo Press Group of Brazil, International News Agency and Radio Sputnik, TASS Russian News Agency, the Hindu Group, Xinhua and ANSA, attended the meeting.

Li introduced the economic and social developments in Shanghai as well as spoke about the 2nd China International Import Expo held in the city recently.

Li noted that, at present, the city is accelerating the construction of international economic, financial, trade, shipping and technological innovation centers in accordance with President Xi Jinping’s guidance on Shanghai’s work. “As China’s largest economic center city and the frontier of reform and opening up, Shanghai is famed for openness, innovation and tolerance as its most distinctive characters. Facing the future, we will uphold and continue to promote Shanghai’s urban character to accelerate the opening up and innovation while improving the ecological environment,” he noted.

“I hope you will all continue to pay close attention to Shanghai and report on Shanghai in an objective and fair manner, and let the world understand Shanghai comprehensively,” Li added.

Shanghai leaders Zhou Huilin, Zhuge Yujie and Zong Ming also attended the activities.
