Honor for city heart hospital
Shanghai Yueyang Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine was honored as a branch of the nation’s traditional Chinese medicine clinical research center for cardiovascular disease. The hospital also announced the establishment of its heart center on Wednesday.
Yueyang is the only hospital in the city with the titles of national chest pain center, atrial fibrillation center, heart failure center, stroke center and heart rehabilitation center. The combination of Western medicine and TCM allows it to work out a cardiac vascular disease management model that takes advantage of both types of medicine.
“Our heart center is established through collaboration of cardiology, cardiac surgery and multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment teams to offer patients a more comprehensive and regular heart disease service,” said Dr Zhou Jia, president of Shanghai Yueyang Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine.
Cardiovascular disease is the top killer in China, higher than cancer and other diseases. It is responsible for over 40 percent of deaths in the nation. There are 290 million people with cardiovascular diseases in China, including 11 million with coronary disease, 4.5 million with heart failure, 2 million with congenital heart disease and 245 million with hypertension.
