As of Tuesday, all high-speed trains operating within the Yangtze River Delta region have started using digital tickets, China Railway Shanghai Company said on the same day.

Twenty-four more regional railway stations with G and D service trains, including Shanghai South Railway Station, became the last to introduce paperless ticketing on Tuesday.

On November 12, 45 stations started paperless ticketing. They were followed by an additional 48 stations, including Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station, on November 20.

Passengers who purchase digital tickets need only to scan their ID cards at turnstiles to board trains. Foreigners will be asked to scan their residency documents. For those with IDs that can't be scanned, a manual ticket channel will be opened.
