Major tea fair opens in Pudong
About 30,000 varieties of tea and tea-related products are on display at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center in Pudong New Area starting Friday for the 2019 China Tea Fair Shanghai.
The four-day event has 1,000 booths and a display area of 20,000 square meters.
Teas such as Pu'er, Oolong, flower, black and green are on display. There are also clay pots, tea sets and tea-related clothing and handicrafts on view. These come from across China, as well as Japan, Malaysia and South Korea.
Tea culture events such as performances of the guqin (a plucked seven-string Chinese instrument), flower arrangements, tea ceremonies and expert discussions will compliment the fair to enrich the experience of tea sippers.
Several sipping events are designed for consuls in Shanghai to introduce Chinese tea culture to foreigners in the city.
A forum on the future trends of China's tea industry will be held on Saturday.
Tea-related intangible cultural heritage will be showcased on Monday.
A Chinese ink-wash painting exhibition on the 24 jieqi (24 solar terms), a discussion of Pu'er tea collection and sipping, and a competition to pick the best tea ceremony masters are part of the fair as well.
