Main construction of Shanghai Disneyland's Zootopia has begun, the resort said on Monday, after preparation of the site next to Fantasyland was completed.

The first Zootopia-themed land of any Disney park worldwide will immerse visitors in a mammal metropolis alongside their favorite characters from the movie, according to Shanghai Disney Resort.

The new land will be home to an increasing number of characters from the Academy Award-winning movie, including Nick and Judy who are already very popular with the resort’s visitors. Other film fans' favorites to feature will be Flash the Sloth, Gazelle, Officer Clawhauser, Chief Bogo and Yax the Yak.

A week ago, Polar Bear joined Flash to make a surprise appearance on the wall around the site prompting excitement on social media. Visitors to the theme park took the opportunity to take selfies with posters of Flash, Polar Bear and three animal-sized doors on the wall.

“This is an immensely exciting time for Shanghai Disney Resort and Zootopia fans alike,” said Joe Schott, the resort's president and general manager.

Zootopia is the second major expansion at the resort after Toy Story Land. The resort said Zootopia will honor Disney’s rich legacy of storytelling while continuing to exceed visitors' expectations.
