A video celebrating the 20th anniversary of Macau's return to the motherland was released in Shanghai and Macau on Monday.

“Tomorrow Will Be Better” was produced by Hou Kong Middle School in Macau and Soong Ching Ling School in Shanghai, with students and teachers singing patriotic songs along with video clips showing the history of Macau.

With support from the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office of Shanghai, the Macau Foundation and the Women's General Association of Macau, production took six months. It was filmed at the two schools and landmarks in the two cities, including the Ruins of St Paul in Macau and Shanghai Tower, where two national flags were unfurled.

The songs include “Song of the Seven Sons – Macau,” written by Wen Yiduo about Macau’s separation from the motherland, “Country” and “Tomorrow Will Be Better.”

Ku Su-hang, a student from Hou Kong Middle School, said the most touching moment during filming was when students from the two schools danced under a national flag in Shanghai.

“It symbolizes that we are carefully nurtured in the arms of the motherland,” she said.

Lu Yuxuan, a student from Soong Ching Ling School, said she was glad to have taken part in the filming.

“My parents were volunteers in a celebration in Shanghai when Macau returned in 1999,” she said. “I feel proud to be able to sing ‘Song of the Seven Sons – Macau’ 20 years later with sisters and brothers from Macau.”

Feng Lirong, principal of the Soong Ching Ling School, said: “Soong Ching Ling School and Hou Kong Middle School both have red genes. The same root and deep love for our motherland made our cooperation in film smooth. I believe the experience will give power to the children and be a lifelong influence.”

Hou Kong Middle School was the first school in Macau to raise the five-starred national flag on October 1 in 1949.

Lam Un Mui, president of the Women's General Association of Macau, said the association will create more opportunities to promote development of the welfare of women and children in both cities and to build a better future for the whole country.
