New research into unhealthy local habits
Local health authorities are launching a survey into the unhealthy habits of local residents, and will introduce targeted education campaigns based on the results.
According to the World Health Organization, about two thirds of illnesses are caused by unhealthy lifestyle choices like smoking, inactivity and poor diet. However, many illnesses can be controlled and treated through behavior changes.
Shanghai Health Enhancement Commission and Shanghai University of Medicine and Health Sciences will jointly launch the survey, which includes 50 items related to habits such as breakfast eating, smoking and consumption of sugary beverages, officials said on Wednesday.
