Hongqiao Airport presented a piano and ballet performance on the weekend to mark the beginning of a new round of shows for the coming Spring Festival.

Shanghai pianist Zhang Kangming and two dancers staged a performance of "A Conversation between Piano and Ballet" at the airport's terminal 2 on Friday night.

A total of 15 pieces were presented at the Piano Bar near the boarding section of the terminal, entertaining travelers before their flights.

"Though I didn't have time to watch the whole show, it made me feel comfortable ahead of my journey," said Li Wei, a business traveler about to take a flight to Beijing.

Local students were also invited to play piano during the show.

These performances are preparations for high passenger numbers during the upcoming Spring Festival, said Fei Yan, deputy director of safety and service at the airport.

The annual festive travel rush, this year from January 10 to February 18, is expected to see 3 billion travelers on trains, planes and buses nationwide.

The airport has previously hosted folk and pop music festivals in terminals that have proved popular among travelers. The airport has also been decorated in a New Year style.

A 7-meter "crystal magnolia" at the entrance to T2 features soft LED screens with a golden tree in the middle. It was a big attraction to selfie-hungry passengers at the weekend.
