Tianzifang's jazz celebration
Jazz musicians perform at the Tianzifang Art Center in Huangpu District in a concert featuring class Shanghai songs.
A jazz concert was held at the Tianzifang Art Center in Huangpu District at the weekend to promote the area's cultural and tourist attractions.
The band, whose members have an average age of 75, usually performs at the Peace Hotel. They played classic Shanghai songs at the concert which was also a celebration for the new year.
More such concerts and cultural events will be organized in Tianzifang, the district's culture and tourism authorities said.
Last month, an event blending painting and pingtan (storytelling to music in Suzhou dialect) based on the classic novel "Dream of the Red Chamber" was held in Tianzifang.
Tianzifang, home to galleries, boutique shops, cafes, bars and restaurants, represents the haipai (the Shanghai-style culture of East-meets-West) longtang (back alleyways) culture.
