Shanghai parks ready for spring celebrations

Flower exhibitions and other activities will sprout up across local parks next year. Events are planned for Chenshan Botanical Garden, Binjiang Forest Park and other venues.

The city's parks will host a variety of events next year such as exhibitions and discussions, Shanghai's greenery authorities announced on Tuesday.

A spring flower exhibition will be held at Chenshan Botanical Garden in Songjiang District from January 23 through February 9, with flowers such as peony and azalea on display, according to the Shanghai Greenery and Public Sanitation Bureau.

On Wednesday, the first day of the New Year, Chinese zodiac-related games and activities will be hosted at the garden as well.

A narcissus exhibition will kick off at Gongqing Forest Park in Yangpu District on January 16. It will run through January 31. Other flowers such as tulip and plum blossom will also be featured.

The Shanghai Botanical Garden in Xuhui District will host a Spring Festival exhibition from January 17 to February 16, featuring blossoms such as rose, gladioli and narcissus.

Folk culture activities marking the Year of the Rat will be held at the Shanghai Zoo in Changning District between January 23 and April 5, including writing chunlian (Spring Festival couplets), paper-cutting, riddle guessing and games.

Shanghai Binjiang Forest Park in the Pudong New Area will organize winter biology camps in January and February, and a flower arrangement exhibition from January 17.

A Spring Festival culture and art celebration will kick off at Zuibaichi Park in Songjiang District on January 10, featuring a painting exhibition, Huju Opera performance, lectures and garden party.
