Milder weather on its way
The current wave of cold weather has come to an end with milder days ahead this week, forecasters said, and temperatures of 18 degrees Celsius by early next week.
However, more cold days are on their way and by the middle of next week temperatures should drop to 8 degrees and below.
Thursday, the first working day of the new year, was a little warmer with a high of 12.5 degrees, 3 degrees higher than New Year's Day.
The high will remain at 12 or 13 degrees for the remainder of this week with the low increasing to 9 to 10 degrees.
Friday morning will see fog in some parts of the city and there will be brief periods of drizzle over the weekend.
On Monday and Tuesday, the high will jump to 18 degrees with a low of 12. Monday will be dry. However, drizzle will return late on Tuesday but soon disperse.
From Wednesday, temperatures will drop to 5 to 8 degrees.
Thursday marks the traditional Laba Festival, when people cook Laba porridge.
