More than a third of shoes in 50 batches checked by the city's market watchdog failed quality tests, authorities said on Thursday.

A batch of H&M shoes failed for poor color fastness to rubbing, and could lead to lead to allergies with long-time exposure, the Shanghai Administration for Market Regulation said.

Shoes made by Bidengbao Shoe Co Ltd in Wenzhou in neighboring Zhejiang Province failed for a decomposable dye which is carcinogenic, the administration said.

Some shoes sold at the Wing On Department Store in Huangpu District, Bailian Xijiao Shopping Mall in Changning District, and JD.com were also substandard, the administration said.
