Construction of the tallest skyscraper in northeast downtown got underway over the weekend.

The 280-meter and 250-meter twin towers of The Springs in Xinjiangwancheng, Yangpu District, are expected to be completed around 2025.

The buildings will contain offices, shops, restaurants, a theater and a Mirage Hotel. Its will be connected with Sanmen Road Station on Metro lines 10 and 20.

Each of the towers has a terrace, built in the middle of the buildings, that looks from outside like a crack.

The buildings will be the core of The Springs complex, a development by US commercial real estate company Tishman Speyer. The largest commercial site in Xinjiangwancheng will include offices and hotels along with cultural, commercial and entertainment facilities.
