Shanghai Blood Center is allowing people visit the center and work as volunteers to encourage more people to donate blood.

Each session lasts for two hours. Volunteers work outside blood donation vehicles, encouraging passers-by to donate.

“Since the volunteer program was introduced, residents, schools and expatriate groups have contacted us to participate,” said Zhu Guangyu from Shanghai Blood Center. “About 150 private individuals participated last month. Whole families came together.”

Many schools also reached agreement with the center to organize regular volunteering by their students.

Many expatriates also visited the Blood Center and to consult about donations.

Some 20 students from Xuhui Middle School visited the Blood Center's labs and donation rooms. They also worked as volunteers on Saturday and Sunday at a blood donation vehicle at a new night street fair on Anyi Road in downtown Jing’an District.

“It is eye-opening to visit the center, where we learned the importance of blood donations,” said Max Yang, a student from Xuhui Middle School. “My classmates and I volunteer at Anyi Street. Some people came with us and gave blood at vehicle. We are very happy.”

Those interested in the volunteer program can contact Shanghai Blood Center’s official WeChat account or call 021-6275-8257 for bilingual consultation.
