Shanghai has severed its sister-city relationship with Prague after the latter repeatedly took wrong actions at Taiwan and other significant issues involving China’s core interests, the Foreign Affairs Office of Shanghai government said on Tuesday.

All official communication with Prague will be suspended immediately, since the political prerequisite and foundation for bilateral exchange no longer exists, the statement said.

Shanghai government and its people have lodged serious condemnation and protest as Prague blatantly interfered with China’s internal affairs and violated the one-China policy.

Mutual respect and equal benefits are the foundation of the Sino-Czech relationship. “We urge the Prague government to realize its mistakes, eliminate the negative impacts and stick to the one-China principle,” said the statement.
