Airlines cancel flights to and from Wuhan
China Eastern and Shanghai airlines cancelled 20 flights to or from Wuhan on Thursday, including eight between Shanghai's two airports.
The cancellations were made after Wuhan in central China's Hubei Province, which has reported 444 novel coronavirus infection cases, announced that it would suspend public transportation and close the airport and railway stations to outgoing passengers from 10am on Thursday until further notice.
Apart from flights departing Wuhan, the carriers also canceled flights to Wuhan from Shanghai, neighboring Zhejiang, southwest Sichuan and south Guangdong provinces, after 10am.
Two flights from Wuhan landed at the Pudong airport before 9am on Thursday, while another flight had already taken off from Wuhan Tianhe International Airport, heading to the Hongqiao airport.
The Shanghai Airport Authority has announced that all passengers flying from Wuhan to Shanghai are having their temperatures checked at the city's airports. China Eastern also announced that all flight attendants on flights to or from Wuhan are wearing masks while serving passengers onboard.
A total of 199 takeoff and landing flights have been cancelled at the Wuhan airport on Thursday. China Southern, a major carrier at the airport, has announced the cancellation of all takeoff and landing flights at the airport after 10am.
Kunming Airlines also announced the cancellation of all flights to or from Wuhan between Friday and February 9.
