Disney Resort and Shanghai Library added to closure list

More tourist attractions such as Shanghai Disney Resort and Shanghai Tower have announced their indefinite closure amidst coronavirus containment efforts.

Shanghai Disney Resort will close Shanghai Disneyland, Disneytown, including Walt Disney Grand Theatre and Wishing Star Park, from Saturday.

The resort will assist in the refund of guests have purchased tickets for admission to Shanghai Disneyland, have booked a resort hotel, or booked tickets for Beauty and the Beast Mandarin Production through original ticket purchase channels.

Also from Saturday, Shanghai Tower, the world’s second-tallest building, will close its 118th, 119th, 125th and 126th floors. It will also close its exhibition center from the first to the third floors.

Another landmark in the Lujiazui area, the Shanghai Jin Mao Tower, closed its observatory on the 88th floor on Friday.

Visitors who have purchased tickets to the two buildings will get refunds through original purchase channels. A reopening date hasn’t been set.

Other popular tourist sites in Pudong, including the China Art Museum, the Modern Art Museum Shanghai, Pudong Library and former residence of Fu Lei, also closed on Friday. The Aurora Museum will close its doors from Monday.

Shanghai Fisherman's Wharf has suspended operation from Friday afternoon as well.

All parks that are A-level tourist attractions such as Shanghai Botanical Garden and Guyi Garden are closed.

The Sheshan National Forest Park, Jiabei Countryside Park and Gucun Park are also on the closure list.

Shanghai Culture Square has announced it will delay all performances scheduled during the Spring Festival, and the Shanghai Oriental Art Center has cancelled all holiday performances.

The Yuyuan Garden Lantern Festival was called to a halt on Friday. 

Shanghai Happy Valley will close from Saturday. Shanghai Great World, also known as Dashijie, was closed from Friday. 

The Zhouqiao scenic area has closed from Friday and cancelled its Lantern Festival activities scheduled on February 8 and 9.

The Shanghai Library has also closed temporarily and delayed its reading events.

The closure of the library, its branch Bibliotheca Zi-Ka-Wei, as well as its bookstores and 24-hour self-service book-borrowing and return booths, began from Friday. When the services will resume has yet to be announced.

No overdue charges will be levied during the library's closure period.

Shanghai has confirmed four new coronavirus-related pneumonia cases, including one in critical condition.
