First coronavirus patient tests negative

Shanghai's first confirmed case, a woman from Wuhan diagnosed with the disease on January 15, is discharged from hospital after tests reveal that she is now free of the virus.

The first confirmed case of coronavirus-related pneumonia in Shanghai was discharged from hospital on Friday. 

The 56-year-old woman, surnamed Chen, lived in Wuhan, capital of Hubei Province. She developed a fever and weakness on January 10 in Wuhan. She arrived in Shanghai on January 12 and was isolated on January 15 when she visited a hospital in the city. 

Doctors diagnosed her as having the infection. 

Chen’s temperature has been normal for six straight days and her respiratory tract symptoms have much improved. 

She underwent another two tests for the virus and results proved negative.
