A perfect airy start to the Year of the Rat
The Shanghai Ecology and Environment Bureau announced on Saturday that the air quality all over the city had been good or perfect on New Year's Eve, the fifth year since the city banned fireworks inside the Outer Ring Road.
The average hourly concentration of PM2.5 particles fell from 40 micrograms per cubic meter from Friday midnight.
At 1am, the highest reading was in Qingpu Distric (53 micrograms per cubic meter) while Chongming District saw the lowest concentration of 18 micrograms per cubic meter.
The pleasant conditions are likely to remain on Sunday, when rain will increase with growing northeasterly winds.
The rain will decrease on Monday with Wednesday and Thursday sunny.
Temperatures will range from 4 to 10 degrees Celsius during the holiday.
