Shanghai has placed a temporary ban on all large-scale funerals, civil affairs authorities said on Sunday.

Participants should, as far as possible, be restricted to the immediate families of the deceased, the Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau said.

Cemeteries and columbariums must take measures to prevent big crowds gathering during tomb-sweeping events.

Temperature checks and enhanced disinfection have also been mandated by the bureau.
