Medical staff are in full protective outfits in the fever clinic.

All fever clinics of hospitals in Shanghai are working all day and night to separate patients and identify those who may be infected with coronavirus.

The Shanghai No. 6 People’s Hospital clinic is in a small building, separate from the outpatient department and other buildings.

Staff are working around the clock to ensure no coronavirus case goes undiagnosed, and they are extremely busy. The number of patients visiting the fever clinic keeps rising every day: 270, 290, 300 recently.

Those suspected of harboring the coronavirus are kept in separate room for further checks.

All staff at the clinic are well protected to prevent they themselves from being infected.

Xu Dazhen, a nurse at the clinic, said nurses from other departments are at the clinic to help deal with the extra workload.

“We are also nervous and worried as it is a new virus. When wearing our protective gear, we can’t eat or use the toilet,” Xu said. “We sweat profusely after wearing the kit for two hours. It is extremely hot and stuffy with the mask, goggles and coat.”
