Rapid clearance over protective clothing
Around 50,000 sets of protective outfits from Germany were quickly cleared by customs at Shanghai Pudong International Airport on Tuesday.
The outfits is vital for the protection of medical staff fighting the coronavirus outbreak.
Customs said that although paperwork about the clothing had not been well prepared, due to the urgent need in China the importer had made a brief declaration to local customs to seek quick entry.
Customs officers coordinated with customs at Frankfurt Airport to gain approval to simplify procedures.
The outfits was released just after arrival.
On Monday, the airport customs also facilitated entry for a batch of lead-acid batteries to be used in X-ray machines which can detect coronavirus.
Because of the epidemic, hospitals in several regions of China are facing shortages of such batteries. Batteries from America weighing 1,021 kilograms were released by customs upon entry.
