Shanghai Mayor Ying Yong (second from left) visited Shanghai No. 6 People's Hospital to check disease prevention and control on Wednesday.

City officials said Shanghai is in the critical point for epidemic control, which focuses on medical treatment, community screening and management at the ports entering Shanghai.

Scientific disease prevention and control, good collaboration between departments, cutting the spreading channel, enhancing supply for key goods and items and stabilizing the market are all important to ensure a victory against coronavirus, said Mayor Ying Yong on Wednesday.

Ying visited local medical facilities to talk with doctors and nurses and express his gratitude and respect to medical staff.

He visited Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center, the designated hospital for coronavirus patient treatment. He went to the headquarters of infectious disease diagnosis and treatment at the hospital and talked with medical experts serving at the special wards for patients with coronavirus infection via video.

Ying encouraged doctors to perfect treatment plans to help more patients and enhance research to look for more effective clinical methods to provide more Shanghai experience to the nation.

City officials also visited intensive care unit of Shanghai No. 6 People’s Hospital and checked the negative-pressure wards. Ying inquired about the change of patient numbers in fever clinic and also asked the hospital to perfect in-hospital infection prevention and better process management.

He then went to Shanghai Center for Disease Control and Prevention for reports from different departments and industries and gave direction for the next-stage task. He said the government must offer enough supply of protective items like masks to meet residents’ demand and guide a proper and scientific use among the public.

Public transportation, venues and facilities must step up disinfection and ventilation while communities should enhance disinfection and waste management.

Ying said all industries should perfect the supply of products and goods that residents need to ensure market stability and people’s normal life.
