Trains from Shanghai to cities in Guangdong, Henan and Fujian provinces and Beijing are being suspended from Thursday to prevent the spread of coronavirus-related pneumonia.

These include the D931 from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station to Zhanjiang West Station in Guangdong Province, the G4072 from Shanghai Hongqiao to Zhengzhou East Station in Henan Province, the G10 from Shanghai Hongqiao to Beijing South Station, and the D3205 from Shanghai Hongqiao to Xiamen North Station in Fujian Province.

The suspension will last till late February for some trains, according to rail authorities. Full refunds will be offered.

An estimated 38,000 passengers left railway stations in Shanghai on Thursday, and about 128,000 arrived, a fall of 77.5 percent from the same period last year.

All passengers are required to undergo temperature checks at Shanghai stations.

Thursday is the 21st day of chunyun, the Spring Festival travel rush, which lasts 40 days.
