Shanghai medical team heads to Wuhan with mobile hospital in toe

On February 4 , two national emergency medical rescue teams from Shanghai, with altogether 95 members, set off for Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei Province at the center of the novel coronavirus outbreak. 

They literally brought a hospital with them.

One of the team is from Shanghai East Hospital, who sent out 11 rescue vehicles which can be used as a mobile hospital, containing power equipment, air-conditioners, water and food supplies. The mobile hospital can last for 14 days without support.

Two national emergency medical rescue teams from Shanghai, with altogether 95 members, set off for Wuhan on 4 February.

Liu Zhongmin, president of the hospital, said: "All the medical procedures including epidemic prevention, disease prevention, isolation and infection control can be undertaken within the mobile hospital.”

The team also brought 25 tents, which can house 300 outpatients a day, 40 isolation wards and an ICU for eight.

Their team includes 57 members, 31 of whom are doctors and nurses mainly from clinics specializing in respiratory infectious and internal medicine, five are medical technicians, and yet more offer logistics support. 

"We gathered the team in only two hours," Liu continued. "From Chinese New Year's Eve till now, none of our team members have had a day to rest."
