Jewish community donates 6,000 masks to local hospital

Rabbi Shalom Greenberg, director of the Shanghai Jewish Center, donated 6,000 facial masks to the Children’s Hospital of Fudan University over the weekend.
Greenberg, along with volunteers from local Jewish community, donated 5,000 masks for children and another 1,000 for adults to the neonatal intensive care unit of the hospital.
"This donation on behalf of the Shanghai Jewish community is an expression of our firm commitment and support towards China in the unparalleled efforts to fight the coronavirus epidemic," said Greenberg.
Dong Kuiran from the hospital's surgery department accepted the donation and presented a certificate of appreciation. He noted the donation is "kind and much needed" at this time.
Greenberg, 48, has been director of the center since 1998. The organization mainly serves foreigners in Shanghai.
All the masks were collected and donated from the Jewish community in the city, Greenberg said.
Earlier this week Rabbi Greenberg donated 10,000 face masks to be distributed amongst the elderly in the historic area of Hongkou District around the Shanghai Jewish Refugee Museum .
During World War II, thousands of Jewish people found refuge in Shanghai. "We are honored to be able to help those who helped our people at a time of dire need,” Rabbi Greenberg said.
"I hope more people will be inspired to do the same and help," he added.
