Ex-ICBC branch chief charged over bribes

Gu Guoming, former head of Industrial and Commercial Bank's (ICBC) Shanghai branch, has been charged with taking bribes by the No. 1 Branch of the Shanghai People's Procuratorate, officials said on Monday.

Between 2005 and 2018, they said, Gu took advantage of his positions as deputy head and head of the Shanghai branch to help organizations and individuals with financing, loans and contracting projects and to seek profits for them.

He took a huge amount of bribes, prosecutors said.

Gu, 52, was dismissed from public office and expelled from the Communist Party over bribery allegations, according to an announcement by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, China's top anti-graft watchdog, in November last year.

In December, the Supreme People's Procuratorate revealed that Gu was arrested and facing a charge.
