Shanghai police said on Saturday that they have started an investigation into a coronavirus patient who may have deliberately concealed his symptoms when seeing a doctor.

Li, 62, went to Yueyang Hospital in Hongkou District on Wednesday with a cough, but did not tell doctors that he had taken medicine to reduce his temperature and that he had been required to undergo home quarantine in another city.

He confessed only when the doctors asked him about his travel and contact history whee a CT scan of his lungs showed that he could have pneumonia.

He was immediately sent to a fever clinic for quarantine and further treatment. It was confirmed next day that he has coronavirus-related pneumonia.

As a result, some hospital staff have been placed under quarantine.

Li could face the criminal charge of impeding the prevention of infectious diseases.

Yueyang Hospital has been disinfected, and continues to offer services.
