Posters promote chopstick and spoon hygiene
Local health authorities have issued posters which promote the hygienic use of chopsticks and tableware so as to prevent the spread of infectious illness.
In China, when people dine together they traditionally eat and serve themselves from communal dishes with their own chopsticks and spoons. The new posters encourage the use of separate utensils for serving and eating so as to avoid risk of contamination.
“To prevent the spread of coronavirus and also take into account Chinese tradition, we are encouraging people to use one set of chopsticks and spoons to take food from communal dishes and another set to convey the food to their mouths,” said Dr Wu Liming with the Shanghai Municipal Center for Health Promotion. “Such chopsticks and spoons can be put into each plate and people can use the special utensils to place food into their own bowls. This can effectively avoid disease infection.”
“Such special chopsticks and spoon can be different from people’s own dishware to avoid confusion,” he added.
