City reports 9 imported virus cases and 1 infection who had contact with imported case

Nine new imported coronavirus cases were reported in the city on Monday, bringing the total number to 75. Another 20 imported suspected cases are undergoing check, said the Shanghai Health Commission on Tuesday morning.

Three cases are Shanghai natives: one studied in the US and two in the UK. All were put under quarantine upon arriving at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

The forth case is a Yunnan Province native, who studied in the UK, left London on March 20 and arrived at the Pudong airport the next day. The person was sent to a hospital upon arrival for showing symptoms.

The fifth is a Danish, who left Sweden on March 18 and arrived at the Pudong airport the next day via Frankfurt and was put under quarantine upon arrival.

Another three cases are members of one British family. They left London on March 19 and arrived at the Pudong airport the next day via Bangkok and were put under quarantine upon arrival.

The ninth is a British national, who left London on March 20, arrived at the Pudong airport on March 22 via Bangkok and was put under quarantine upon arrival.

All the nine imported cases have been transferred to the designated hospital for treatment and their 26 close contacts on the planes have been tracked and put under quarantine and observation.

Meanwhile, Shanghai reported a new domestically transmitted case, who had contact with an imported case. 

The local case is a Baoshan District resident, who had a business trip in Guangdong Province on March 14 and 15. The person had close contact with an imported case there and was put under quarantine by authorities on March 21. The person started to develop symptoms during quarantine.

So far, the patient's nine close contacts have been tracked and put under quarantine and public places the person visited have been disinfected, the commission said.

Another patient, an imported case returning from Italy, was discharged upon recovery on Monday. 

So far, the city has reported 339 local cases, without suspected cases now. 

As of Monday, 81 patients are hospitalized, including 73 imported cases. Seventy-two are stable, two are seriously sick and seven are in critical condition.

A total of 329 patients have been discharged upon recovery and there are four local fatalities so far.
