Foundation donates quilts to local seniors
Shanghai Shangshan Foundation, a philanthropic foundation initiated by medical professionals in the city, has donated 500 wool quilts to five local senior homes.
The imported Australian wool quilts, worth over 230,000 yuan (US$32,500) in total, have been delivered to senior homes such as Yifu Senior Home and Yichuan No.2 Senior Home in Putuo District.
Due to the coronavirus outbreak, some senior homes in the city turned off their air-conditioning to promote healthy ventilation, while mild temperatures in early spring are a challenge for some vulnerable seniors, according to the foundation, which was established late last year.
The quilt project was initiated quickly and was supported by a company in Songjiang District.
"Many seniors living here are female. The quilts provide timely relief for elderly women and will keep them warm at night," said Zhao Quanjuan, director of the Nanzhang Senior Home in Minhang District.
"I feel warm both physically and mentally," said Gao, who lives at Yichuan No.2 Senior Home, after he received the quilt.
The foundation also donated urgently needed protective products during the coronavirus outbreak, and helped with senior meal service.
