17 imported coronavirus cases reported in Shanghai

Seventeen imported coronavirus cases were imported in Shanghai on Thursday, bringing the total number to 129. Another 23 imported suspected cases are undergoing test, said the Shanghai Health Commission on Friday morning.

Among the new cases, four are Chinese students studying in the UK.

The fifth and sixth cases are a mother who hailed from Jiangsu Province in east China and her son, an Italian. They left Italy on March 23, arrived at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport the next day via Japan and were put under quarantine upon arrival.

The seventh is a Shandong Province native, who lived in United Arab Emirates. The person left UAE on March 24, arrived at the Pudong airport the same day and was put under quarantine upon arrival.

The eighth is a Shandong Province native, who worked in UAE. The person left there on March 24, arrived at the Pudong airport the same day and was put under quarantine upon arrival.

The ninth is a British national, who left the UK on March 23, arrived at the Pudong airport the next day via Russia and was put under quarantine upon arrival.

The 10th is a Zhejiang Province native, who lived in Italy. The person left Italy on March 23, arrived at the Pudong airport the next day via Germany and was put under quarantine upon arrival.

The 11th and 12th are a father and his son, who are Hong Kong natives and lived in the UK. They left the UK on March 23, arrived at the Pudong airport on March 25 via France and were put under quarantine upon arrival.

The 13th is an American, who left Taipei on March 25, arrived at the Pudong airport the same day and was put under quarantine upon arrival.

The 14th is a Colombian, who traveled in Mexico. The person left Mexico on March 23, arrived at the Pudong airport on March 25 via Russia and was put quarantine upon arrival.

The 15th is a Shanghai native, who visited family in the Philippines. The person left there on March 24, arrived at the Pudong airport the same day via Hong Kong and was put under quarantine upon arrival.

The 16th is a Canadian, who left Canada on March 24, arrived at the Pudong airport the next day and was put under quarantine upon arrival.

The 17th is Heilongjiang Province native, who traveled in Cambodia. The person left there on March 25, arrived at the Pudong airport the same day and was put under quarantine upon arrival.

All the 17 patients have been transferred to the designated hospital for treatment and their 119 close contacts on the planes have been tracked and put under quarantine and observation, the commission said.

No new locally transmitted cases or local suspected cases were reported on Thursday. So far, the city has reported 339 local cases.

One imported case, who arrived from the US, was discharged upon recovery on Thursday. Currently, 132 patients are hospitalized, including 125 imported cases. Among them, 125 patients are stable, one is seriously sick and six in critical condition.

Till now, 331 patients have been discharged upon recovery. There are five local fatalities.
