Taxi driver fined for cheating passenger
A taxi driver was fined for cheating a passenger whom he picked up from the Pudong International Airport, local traffic law enforcers said on Monday.
The passenger, a man surnamed Gu, filed a complaint that the taxi ride from the airport to his home in Jinqiao Town in the Pudong New Area on March 6 cost him 275 yuan (US$38), while the usual cost is just 150 yuan.
Gu said he boarded the taxi at approximately 11pm, but the receipt put the time at 8:54pm.
Also, Gu complained that the driver was not wearing a face mask, as required by the government.
Law enforcers found the driver, a man surnamed Liu who drives a taxi under the "Falanhong" brand. Liu has allegedly confessed and said he cheated the passenger to compensate for his recent loss of income, say authorities.
Liu was fined 2,500 yuan, and his company was fined 200 yuan, according to officials.
