Maths congress will minus a year but sums to add up later

The 14th International Congress on Mathematical Education, which was scheduled to be held from July 12 to 19 this year in Shanghai, will be postponed till next year due to the coronavirus pandemic, organizers announced on Sunday.

ICME, the largest international conference on mathematics education, is held every four years. Participants include mathematics educators, curriculum developers, mathematicians, researchers and resource producers.

It was to have been the first time the event would have been held in China.

According to the latest decision by the international Commission on Mathematical Instruction and the organizing committee, the event will be held from July 11 to 18 next year in Shanghai.

It had been planned to be held in the Shanghai Convention and Exhibition Center of International Sourcing. As the venue is unavailable in summer next year, the math education congress will be held at East China Normal University’s campus on Zhongshan Road N. in Putuo District.

According to the university, the event will include 500 activities and is expected to attract 3,400 attendees, with 70 percent coming from overseas.
