Wet, warm start to the week followed by drier weather
Residents can expect a wet and warm start to the week with the start of the solar term Guyu, or grain rain.
Monday will feature cloudy skies in the morning and fog in some suburban areas. It will later turn overcast with showers in the evening. Temperatures will range from a high of 22 degrees Celsius to a low of 11.
Skies will clear on Tuesday but the temperature will drop to 17, which will continue till Thursday.
The temperature should rise on Friday to 19, reaching 24 degrees by Sunday.
Next week will be sunny, with temperatures in the 20s.
Sunday was marked by Guyu, the sixth solar term of the Chinese lunar year, which indicates that spring cold weather has come to an end.
According to the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau, in Guyu, the average temperature of Shanghai is 17.7 degrees, which is higher than Qingming period.
The city often has seven rainy days on average in Guyu, nearly half of the 15-day solar term. The rain is usually drizzle.
In Guyu, some allergens such as catkins, pollen and dust mites can cause problems. Diseases including anaphylactic rhinitis, allergic cough and bronchial asthma often affect children.
Hu Peng, a chief pediatrician at Longhua Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, asked parents to pay special attention to their children.
He suggested children wear soft masks, have adequate sleep, a healthy diet and regular exercises. Parents should regularly wash clothes, bedding and stuffed toys.
