Renji Hospital’s 172 medics, who had served on the front line of the novel coronavirus pandemic in Wuhan, returned to the hospital on Monday to reunite with their colleagues and families and celebrate victory against the virus.

Most had just been released from 14-day quarantine after returning to Shanghai on April 7, when 471 Shanghai medics returned home.

The team, led by vice president Zhang Jidong, had been working at Leishenshan Hospital, Wuhan's second emergency hospital for coronavirus patients.

“I fulfilled my promise when I left Shanghai that I would take every one of my team members back to Shanghai and we made it,” Zhang said. "None of the team members were infected with the virus during working in Wuhan."

Zhou Lingyi and Yu Jinghai, both Renji nurses, who postponed their wedding ceremony to go to Wuhan , said they will have their wedding on May 1 with nine other couples with Renji connections on May 1.

The couple had a special ceremony at Leishenshan Hospital on February 28, with their team members and medics from other hospitals in attendance.

“Though we worked in the same intensive care group in Leishenshan, we were in different shifts, so we didn’t meet each other. We talked to each other every night on the phone,” said Zhou. “We cherish the special time that we have fought together.”
