Medical staff who were on the front line in the fight against the coronavirus in Hubei Province are being offered free surgery for myopia.

The surgery offer, for 100 patients, is being organized by the Shanghai Social Medical Facility Association and Xinshijie Eye Hospital Group as a mark of respect.

In addition, free optometry services are being offered to the children of medics who went to Hubei, as well as discounted myopia surgery to medics and their relatives. One thousand places are available.

Tan Yongchang, a doctor at Ruijin Hospital, underwent free eye surgery on Wednesday after completing a 14-day period of quarantine.

He had been working in Wuhan for more than two months. Dr Tan said that because he was wearing protective gear, his glasses would mist up, making his work difficult.

The offer will last until June 6. So far, some 40 medics who worked in Hubei have signed up, said Xinshijie Hospital.
