The China Railway Shanghai Group is expecting more than 1 million passengers between April 30 and May 6, with the daily peak on May 1.

The majority will be those visiting families as well as tourists.

The resumption of work and production, campus re-openings, the extension of the May Day holiday and the recovery of tourism will boost rail travel.

A total of 1.11 million travelers are estimated to make train trips from Shanghai during the six days, and the figure is likely to hit 285,000 on May 1, which is expected to set a daily record after the Spring Festival.

Extra train services from Shanghai to Nanjing, Hangzhou, Ningbo, Hefei, Anqing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen will be arranged to meet the expected demand.

Rail passengers will undergo infrared thermometer temperature checks at railway stations and they will be required to wear masks during trips.
