Internationally made vacuum cleaners done and dusted
Domestically produced vacuum cleaners perform better than their international brand counterparts, according to comparison tests conducted by the Shanghai Consumer Council
The 21 cordless vacuum cleaners, bought from e-commerce platforms, had prices ranging from 618 (US$87.29) to 5,659 yuan. The tests covered indexes such as dust removal performance based on samples, operation time, noise and suction power.
They were rated from one to five stars.
A sample from a Panasonic showed it had the bottom de-dusting capability over smooth ground. It also had the poorest suction power.
Some consumers complain that the suction power of their vacuum cleaners declines significantly with use.
The council rated the suction loss performance of a Samsung sample and a Panasonic sample at two stars, denoting a suction loss of more than 60 percent.
The Samsung sample was also at the bottom in terms of noise, together with other brands including Supor and Ittar.
