Metro passengers are now able to check how crowded a train is in real time by using their mobile phones, a new service launched by Shanghai Shentong Metro Group.

The service allows passengers to look up information including current train capacity, location and temperatures.

Passengers can customize their trips using the data, helping them to avoid crowded carriages.

The service is currently under test on the Daduhui app, covering most lines except Lines 3, 4, Pujiang, the Maglev and some parts of Line 13.
