Showers will bring a cool change to the summer warmth this week with the highest temperature dropping from 32 to 26 degrees Celsius.

Sunday saw the mercury soar to a high of 32.3 degrees at the benchmark Xujiahui weather station under sunny skies, the highest temperature since summer officially began.

However, as it is now flood season in southern China, we can expect a rain belt this week.

There will be scattered showers on Monday, lasting through Tuesday morning with cloudy skies in the afternoon.

Wednesday and Thursday will be fine with the mercury bouncing back above 30 degrees.

Another belt of rain, with thunderstorms,  likely stronger than earlier in the week, will arrive late Friday and run throughout the weekend.

The high for Monday and Tuesday will be 26 degrees. It will rise to 29 degrees on Wednesday and hit 31 degrees on Thursday.

It will then fall to 27 to 28 degrees over the weekend with the rain.

The low will be between 21 to 23 degrees this week.
